1st Mahalo Movie Night at The Landmark

Jason Calacanis sent out a message on Twitter today to get out the word about a screening for the Image:Let the Right One In.jpgSwedish horror film titled, “Let the Right One In” (Swedish: Låt den rätte komma in). This movie spins the traditional vampire story. Since I’m not a film critic, I’ll just focus on the night and not the movie. However, I’d recommend the movie to horror genre fans - pre-teen vampire love, FTW! The funniest part of the movie was when one of the people in the theater (*admits nothing*) made a comment during the bloody kissing scene, causing the watchers to lol!

The venue was the Landmark on Pico in Westwood.

The Landmark is a theater in West Los Angeles, Los Angeles. It’s been reviewed 122 times.

We arrived about 7:15 PM so we missed hanging out with everyone for wine before the movie at Landmark’s Wine Bar. Prior to movie starting, Jason popped in and threw snacks to (read: *at*) everyone while walking around the theater. Jason then shared with everyone that the impetus for the 1st Mahalo Movie Night was a suggestion from Mark Cuban (of course, Cuban and Todd Wagner purchased the theater chain in 2003), and once the Toblerone, Caramel Corn, M&Ms, Twizzlers, etc. were distributed, the movie started.

The film won the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival Founders Award for Best Narrative Feature.

Let the Right One In was also shown at LA FILM FEST 2008.

The Landmark is a great venue for a movie, I’ve been in LA 2.5 years and I still hadn’t made it here beyond the Arclight. The Wine Bar and free parking are noteable, as well as some of the more upscale snacks. You can purchase Fiji water too.

Overall, the screening had a good crowd tonight for a last minute movie tweetup - probably about 50 people. Damon Young, Ashley Biever, Tyler Crowley, Michael Dorausch and Mark Politi were all in attendance.

Looking forward to the next one. Thanks to Jason for organizing.
